Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father left the family, she was grew up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder caused by words as a young teenager. Ford was fascinated by acting during her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she was a poor choice for this school. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but in the meantime, she had already made her television debut in a 1991 episode in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in television shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Her regular work in theatre led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. However, Tate was soon gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances that she incorporated into her repertoire in 1996.
