Gabriel

Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on January 31, 1936. He is Chilean historian. The country is famous for his studies of sociology and his interpretations of movements. He played a prominent role during the protests by students of 2011, 2012 and the 2006. Salazar was born to an impoverished family. Salazar attended Universidad de Chile and studied sociology, philosophy , and history. Also, he worked as an assistant to Mario Gongora and Hector Herrera Cajas the classic historian. (1) Salazar was associated with the Revolutionary Left Movement until 1973. The military tortured him in Villa Grimaldi during that year. When he was released from the prison camp for military in England, he fled the country. He was given a grant to further his education at the University of Hull. He earned a PhD on Economic and Social History from that institution in 1984. The following year, he returned to Chile. Salazar was largely unknown until 1985 , the year he had his debut. Salazar's study subjects were workers, peons and kids huachos[A] as well as women. (1) Salazar is among the founders of the historiographic movement known as Nueva Historia Social. Salazar regards history as an instrument for political action.
